Mini Burritos

One mini Bean Burrito and one Spiced Soy Burrito from Casa Burrito on Portage. Side of Nachos with Frijoles and Salsa.

Again, the molasses in the burritos makes them unique. These are clean eating burrito goodness.

Only 1 Out of Every 4 Patrons Can Finish Their Burrito

California Burrito, no dairy, from Don Pedro's Mexican Grill for dinner.

Thumbs up to free chip and salsa before the meal. Thumbs down to the non-allowance of substituting the cheese and sourcream for guacamole. Thumbs up to a filling meal.

Lunch takeout from Pollo Volante @ St. Mary Ave and Main Street. Vegan burrito with a side of nachos and guacamole.

That's an awesome $10 burrito. Apparently zucchini *can* be done right as a filling.

Mistaken Burritos

Burrito with Chips from the Mondragon Bookstore & Coffee House for lunch.

I ordered the Breakfast Burrito... but things got mixed up. There's always next time...

Fringe Burrito

Burrito with Chips (with a side of Southern Fried Tofu Strips) from the Mondragon Bookstore & Coffee House for lunch. It's always good, but today was particularly good. Downtown winds managed to blow a bunch of the chips off my plate as I walked back to work, but that's the way she goes.

Hats Off to Half Pints

Harvest Burrito (vegan optioned) from the Royal Diner on Albert for lunch.

It was allright... but my pint of St. James Pale Ale was more filling. This burrito needs more carbs and less lettuce filler.

Yammy

Harvest Burrito (veganized) with a side of Yam Fries from the Royal Dinner. It was a yammy affair.

Naucamole

I went to the Taco Time on Marion Street for a quick veggie burrito after work. "Extra guacamole please," I requested. "We don't carry guacamole anymore," the till person responded.
To which I replied "well, cancel my order then". Last time they said they were out. But refusing to carry guacaole at all? That's a deal breaker. I'll never visit that Taco Time again.

They're Triangles... Not Strips

Burrito with Chips (with a side of Southern Fried Tofu Strips) from the Mondragon Bookstore & Coffee House for lunch. As a small bonus, I brought my own plate for the to-go order, so I got 10% off. Thumbs up.

Their company website consists of a single jpg

A Bean and Cheese Burrito, no cheese, with guacamole, from Casa Burrito on Portage.

I was going to go for the Southern Spiced Soy, but they were out.

Unconventional stuff. Broken tortilla chips in the burrito. Molasses in the beans. And toasted in the oven for a crispy outer layer.

Really? Really.

California Burrito, no dairy, with guacamole, from Don Pedro's Mexican Grill for lunch. To go.

Strike 1: They put cheese on it so they had to remake it while I sit and wait.

Strike 2: They're out of "big" containers so they had to dice it up and use multiple, smaller containers.

Strike 3: I noticed when I got back to work that they forgot to give me guacamole, even though the server who handed me the bag explicitly told me there was guacamole in one of the containers.

Strike 4: I returned to Don Pedro's, and after opening all 3 containers and verifying I am not lying about not receiving guacamole, I get this tiny container relayed from the kitchen. $2.99 for that little container of guacamole? Really? And it's not even particularly good guacamole...

I'd like to think it was a one time thing, or that they are getting into the groove of opening a new restaurant, but these things seem to happen every time I go there. For all the hassle at a cost of $17 and change, this isn't exactly something I am going to subject myself to again anytime soon.

Anniversary Burrito

Not my first visit, and definitely not my last, I went to Mondragon Bookstore & Coffee House for dinner. As usual, I got the Burrito with Que Pasa Chips on the side. Sweet burrito goodness, fork and knife style!

Denver Airpot

I took the reverse flight path back to Winnipeg, and had a stopover in Denver, with just enough time to hit the Duty Free and grab a burrito. Not a whole lot of burrito proprietors to choose from, so I take a second stab at Que Bueno Mexican Grill.

My burrito on my way south was unspectacular... and this one was too.

I like zucchini as much as the next guy, but should it be a staple burrito filling? No. It's a cheap boring filler which creates too much tortilla destroying juice. Any if you're going to charge $2 for guacamole, don't water it down to the point that there are more tomatoes than avocados.

Having said all that, and considering it was purchased in an airport fast food shop, it was filling and hit the spot.

Can't Get Enough of that Chipotle Stuff

Four more Vegetarian Fajita Burritos over the past two days. I depart from Austin tomorrow morning, so that's the end of the Chipotle Mexican Grill for the foreseeable future...

Back on the Burrito Wagon

In Austin (Texas) for a week of work-related training, I'm seizing the opportunity to indulge in the ubiquitous burritos. Fortune has it that my hotel and training center are both walking distance from a Chipotle Mexican Grill. For the sixth time in 3 days, I find myself eating a burrito for lunch/supper.

I've been to Chipotles in Toronto and Washington DC, and I must say, it's the best burrito around, fast-food or otherwise, pound-for-pound. It's not by chance that there are knock-offs are popping up (I'm looking at you Red Burrito in Vancouver).

Every meal, it's the same thing: Vegetarian Fajita Burrito (with cilantro-lime rice, black beans, sauteed green bell pepper and red onions, fresh tomato salsa, roasted chili-corn salsa, guacamole, romaine lettuce, and fresh lime juice). Then, the kicker, Smoked Chipotle Tabasco (by my estimates, a quarter bottle worth).

If I plan it right, I'll have four or five more of these by the time I am done here.
